Brand New Season

Picture
So here it is, a new year and a new street food season.  The harsh winter has not been an idle one for us and we have been busy working on a few new items for the new season.  We have been researching, cooking and, well, eating to bring you a couple of exciting new flavors.

First of all, we have the newest addition to our fleet, the Eva Sweet Waffle trailer.  The trailer was specially designed to fit in smaller spaces.  The trailer is perfect for our newest location in front of the Strathcona Farmers Market and should be there starting May 14th on Saturdays. We are looking forward to spending Saturdays at the market meeting customers new and old as well as shopping for fresh goods!

Street Food Scene Matures

Is it just us, or are more people out there hunting the streets for their dinner.  Nope, it is not just us.  Street food has become a force to be reckoned with in North America in the last few years.   This year is no exception to that trend with a host of new food trucks hitting the streets of Toronto, Vancouver, and yes, even Edmonton.  We welcome the new food vendors out there and hope that this trend continues.  We encourage all of you out there, seasoned street food connaiseurs and "noobs" alike to try catching some of the new street fare during the week and at the Farmers Markets.

Just in case you are not convinced, you might want to check out the new Eat Street website and TV show on the Food Network.  We are thrilled to see such positive action on the street food scene and we were even more thrilled when we were first listed.  You should definately download the Eat Street app and follow Eat Street Tweets @EatStTweet if you dare to commit to this brave new world. See you on the streets!

Thank You to Avenue Magazine

We feel very honored and greatful for the recognition we received in Avenue Magazine's Top 25 Best Things to Eat in Edmonton list for 2011.  It was an unexpected surprise by one of our favorite local magazines, so the news was especially sweet.  We recently received a beautiful plaque honoring our Vanilla Liege Waffle and we will work hard in the coming year to deserve our place on this list.  I am also comitting myself to trying all of the other foods on the list.  I know...tough job :)
For the complete list and other great local stories, please check them out online!

New Flavors!

We are very excited about our 2011 season because we are debuting a couple of brand new flavors.  All we are going to say about it right now are that our favorite colors red and green may be involved.   Keep your eyes peeled for our fresh new varieties that will be hitting the vans shortly.

At a cafe near you?

If you know of a cafe that might be interested in having Eva Sweet Liege waffles on the menu, by all means, let them know about us!  We are happy to provide lovely little balls of dough to cafe's that want to take up waffling as their newest hobby.  If this is you, or a cafe owner that you know, contact us and we will talk waffles.

Eva Sweet Goes Mobile

Picture
It has been a busy month for us at Eva Sweet.  We have a place to be  (107 street and 99 avenue) and we  are gradually getting to know this neighborhood downtown.  Getting the mobile unit set up is a process of trial and error so please bear with us as we get to know the ins and outs of how to do it.  As with all startup businesses, things are evolving at what seems to be lightning speed but we are getting to know some of the amazing folks in the areas we are setting up. It is great to see how interested people seem to be in the concept of mobile food.  Mobile food seems like something that is sure to develop into a more thriving culture here and we are happy to be a part of that process.

It has now been about a month since we first took to the streets and business is picking up and changing daily.
We would like to take a moment to say a big thank you to all of our new downtown friends who have really helped move our business along.  These people are everyone from the journalists, radio djs and food bloggers who first noticed us to the people who have been helping us announce and tweet our location to the masses. We would like to thank our new journalist friends who have noticed us and written nice things about us.  Specifically, we would like to thank Brittney Le Blanc, Liane Faulder, Eric Wong, Jeff Samsonow, Sharon Yeo, Jill Davies-Shaw and all the guys at the Terry, Bill and Steve show on K-97  for helping us spread the word.  Thank you as well to our twitter friends, @allantaylor, @madisonkerr, @chelseachan @adamjford, @lonesomebilydad, @mastermaq, @GordLacey, @habanerogal and @bingofuel for tweeting and retweeting our news.

Two is Company!

It has been such a busy time since our launch 2 months ago!  We have been stretching to try to meet demand and we have been pleasantly surprised by all the positive attention.  We are in the process of making a second van so that we are better able to respond to the request.  Please bear with us as we grow.  We are truly grateful for all the wonderful people that have been helping us grow our small business.  We are grateful as well to the growing community of street food and market vendors that have been helpful along the way.  We can see great things happening in the Edmonton Street Food scene and we are proud to be a part of it.

Eva Sweet has Twitter  - and they are not afraid to use it (anymore)!

Ok, ok...it took us more than a few minutes to wrap our heads around this not so new technology.  In fact, we are still wrapping our heads around it.  Thanks to some hot tips we received from the very tech savvy downtown community, we resolved to figure it out and make it Twitter work for us.  As is turns out, Twitter was not so difficult and completely indispensable to a mobile food business such as ours.   Twitter has been a great tool for us to keep up with what is going on in town as well as to keep tabs on the things that people are saying about our business.  It is such a gift to be able to "hear" what people are saying about us and yes, even take it on the chin when things do not completely go as planned.  So follow us on Twitter @evasweetwaffles and let us know what you think!
